Do I need to use software to control color?

It doesn't require any software. Lightning patterns are controlled from the key combinations.There are detailed instructions on the manual. If the user manual is accidentally lost, you can download it from gimgaming.com.

What is the difference between optical switches and regular switches?

With optical switches there's no contacts, the pcb optically detects when a switch is pressed. Because it's contactless, optical linear switches are some of the smoothest switches you can get.

How does Gateron compare to Cherry?

Smoother, shorter lifespan, budget-friendly and quieter.
Of course, if you have enough budget and are used to typing feeling that cherry switches bring to you, cherry switches are recommended.

Are switches swappable?
